I watched author and illustrator Rick Chrustowski drawing and talking about his books. He was really interesting. I think he would great for our K-2 grades. He has books about insects, birds, frogs, turtles, and bats. This would fit well with our Science curriculum.
Books on self-esteem, self-acceptance and friendship for young children were talked about by Kahryn Heling and Deborah Hembrook. They talked about their books I Wish I had freckles Like Abby, I Wish I had Glasses Like Rosa, I Wish I Was Tall Like Willie and I Wish I Was Strong Like Manuel. I can see the need for books like this.
I talked to author Patricia Curtis Pfitsch. If you like historical fiction you would like her books. She had pictures and artifacts on the giant Seguoia trees in California that go with her book Riding the Flume. This would make a fascinating book talk. She has also written Keeper of the Light,
